Q&A with Sandy

GRES: Welcome to Guardian, Sandy! We're so excited to have you here. Tell us, where do you hail from originally?

SR: I was born in Barrie, Ontario, Canada which is north of Toronto, but my family moved shortly after to the Detroit suburbs, which is where I spent my childhood.

GRES: Where did your interest in finance come from?

SR: As far back as high school I've found the world of finance and accounting to be very interesting. I love the fact that accounting is keeping record of the past and finance is the art of trying to project the future and how the economy will behave.

GRES: So you've been here about 3 months now, what's been your biggest accomplishment thus far?

SR: Well, as soon as I stepped in I had to oversee the GRES audit, which I felt was a pretty big accomplishment just making it through the first part of the learning curve. I'm also really proud of the culture we've created within the department, which is very focused on training and finding workable solutions to challenges.

GRES: What's been your favorite thing about working at Guardian so far?

SR: I like the dynamic, and I feel really good about it. [President] Tom [Brenneke] is thoughtful and welcomes new ideas. I also enjoy my crew in the accounting department. We try to have a lot of fun and work together to find the best solution.

GRES: So now for the fun stuff. What's your favorite place to vacation, and who would you take with you?

SR: I really love local Oregon haunts like Cannon Beach. I did travel to Scotland and loved it as well. As far as who I'd take with me...my close girlfriends and long-term friends are my favorite travel companions.

GRES: When you're not at work, where would someone find you and what would you be doing?

SR: One of my favorite activities is taking advantage of my membership at Barre 3. The workout is fantastic. I also enjoy spending time with my 10-year-old Standard Poodle named Zoë.

Thanks for spending time with us, Sandy! Glad to have you!
