Sunrise Estates Celebrates Grand Re-Opening, New Community Features

On July 11, 2013, Guardian employees, community partners, citizens of The Dalles, Oregon, and Sunrise Estates residents gathered to celebrate the inspiring transformation of this affordable community. Having recently undergone extensive renovations and improvements, Sunrise Estates is now completely upgraded and features amenities like a community room that will strengthen the bonds of those who call it home.

Sunrise Estates was constructed by Ray and Gloria Schultens, long-time business and civic leaders in The Dalles. Partially funded by a USDA Rural Development loan, it was accompanied by a rental contract providing housing assistance to 47 very low-income households.

This project brought brand new amenities like a community room for resident gatherings and other activities, playground for the children, garden beds, laundry facilities, washer and dryer hookups for homes, landscaping, and on-site management to more efficiently address resident needs.

Each home also received upgrades: sliding door replacement, new kitchen finishes, new flooring, new windows and doors, energy efficient appliances, new fixtures, and new roofing, as well as important ADA upgrades that will improve access for residents with disabilities.

This project was made possible by a group of community partners including Oregon Housing & Community Services, USDA Rural Development, WNC Equity Investors, First Republic Bank, Guardian Real Estate Services, Myhre Group Architects, and LMC Construction.

Thank you to everyone who contributed time, expertise, and resources to complete this project. To learn more about
